From the artist's desk...
Summer is long and hot here in Dallas, but in spite of the heat July has gone by in a flash. For an artist, being incredibly busy is not a bad problem to have - I am grateful for all my projects, as they keep me doing what I love, while passing the time and getting me closer to the artistic glories of autumn.
I have little new work to show, as I've stayed busy with commissioned portraits and training the new dog; however, I am proud to say that "Twin Arts" is finished. Additionally, I've been asked to volunteer a painting or two for my local church's very first art show. This exhibition isn't really an art show, but rather an event designed to raise awareness and funds for some of the ministries going on in Nicaragua. Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, and is also the poorest country in the Americas. Its capital city of Managua contains one of the world's largest dumps, called "La Chureca," which, sadly, is home to hundreds of people, mostly children. The ministries our church supports include schools, orphanages, and safe-houses for women and children being rescued from prostitution. Most of the exhibition will feature the amazing photography of Clint Brewer, who spent two weeks this summer in Nicaragua, documenting the everyday lives of people living in Managua as well as the missionary work that is going on there. I am honored to be donating several paintings to be sold at the exhibition, also on the theme of Nicaraguan people and culture, with all the proceeds going towards these ministries. I will be sending out more details soon.
Thanks for reading and for your continued encouragement and support of my career - I hope you are all having a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Anna Rose Bain
