New Featured Artwork
I tend to paint things I love, and strawberries happen to be on my list of favorite things. One of my best childhood memories is of picking late-spring strawberries by hand at an orchard just down the road from where I grew up. On Sundays, kids got to pick a pint for free! I'll never forget how good they tasted, warm from the sun and fresh off the vine! Click on the image to view availability. "Strawberries and Cream" 6x8 - oil on linen glued to board

From the artist's desk... My latest large-scale portrait, "The Perfect Evening," took several months to complete. I started the painting last fall, when a dear friend offered to model for me. With the cold weather beginning to arrive, we decided a portrait that showed "a girl's night in" would be most appropriate, and during the course of our sittings, my friend read her book out loud to me while I painted. It was so much fun to paint; in my mind, this image does exemplify the "perfect evening."

But now, spring is here! As the weather gets warmer, the gardens around Dallas begin to erupt with color, and I find that this is the perfect time of year to paint outdoor portraits. Right now there is so much beauty surrounding us, but it will change quickly, and before we know it, summer will be here and we'll be begging to take back those cool 50-degree mornings. This week happened to be spring break for most Dallas schools, and one afternoon, I visited the Dallas Arboretum. There were children everywhere--smelling the tulips, chasing balloons, and having picnics with their families. Children, especially, grow up and change quickly - their youth is so fleeting, just like spring. In one of my signature paintings, "Princess in a Pond," The model was just 3 years old, and the painting captured both her tenacious personality and her innocence, in a beautiful outdoor setting. The painting reminds us that spring is short, but art is long!

My schedule is filling up fast; on March 26-28, I will be in Houston for the Bayou City Arts Festival. If you happen to live in the area, I'd love to meet you!
